IMDM – short for Infrastructure Management and Decision Making – has its roots in the railway sector, specifically at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and its transport laboratory. It was there, during a Rivier audit of the French national rail network, that we developed the first asset simulation model for a network spanning over 50,000 km of track. Twenty years later, that work still shapes real-world investment decisions.
We remain driven by the same conviction: a sound infrastructure decision is built on a nuanced understanding of the local context and is measured by its ability to endure across generations.
This is the guiding principle we have never abandoned: from rail and road networks to energy, utilities and operational real estate; from Switzerland to France and Portugal; from an engineering firm to the Eqylibr® digital platform.
Designing the infrastructure of tomorrow means constantly seeking a balance between performance, long-term investment, service quality and responsible resource management. This ambition guides both our studies and the contribution IMDM aims to make to society.
