The origins of IMDM
IMDM has its roots in the world of railways; the beginnings of our activities date back to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) and its transport laboratory (ITEP then LITEP).
The audit of the French national rail network in 2005, also known as the Rivier audit after the late Professor Robert Rivier, was an opportunity to talk about asset management on the scale of a network of over 50,000 km of track and to develop the first asset simulation model. The model produced most of the projections of investment needs required to renovate the network. Twenty years on, the success of this mission still leaves its mark on the French railway landscape.
Building on this legacy, since IMDM was founded we have continued to extend our expertise, our services and our digital tools, in particular the Eqylibr® suite, to serve our customers in Switzerland and Europe: auditing rail and road networks of national importance, analysing the maturity and improving the processes of asset management, taking on the outsourcing of certain management activities, and so on.
Then, in 2020, thanks to the merger-acquisition of tamdis, our field of activity was expanded to include energy and fluid distribution networks, propelling IMDM into the fields of energy transition and network governance, as well as energy production facilities.
Finally, since 2022, we have had a presence in France, through IMDM SAS, Paris, and since 2023, in Portugal, through our IT development subsidiary SWI2M, Funchal.
Today, we have more than 30 infrastructure network managers who place their trust in us on a regular basis.
