Context and objectives

The assignment set out to determine line currents and node voltages following the construction of several substations and the addition of large consumers.

The objectives included:

  • Developing the long-term asset strategy for the network
  • Analysing different contractual options for renewing and maintaining the network
  • Estimating the marginal cost of energy performance at renewal

Approach and results

The approach was based on modelling the electrical grid in NEPLAN, with the following steps:

  • Model the network
  • Collect and analyse a full year of network measurements
  • Calculate loads
  • Propose the optimal network topology
